August 22, 2023) — VETRO, the leading provider of user-friendly cloud-native fiber management solutions, announced a series of new features for its market-leading VETRO FiberMap platform.  The new features – including quick route, fiber paths table, and network dashboard – exhibit dynamic functionality, remarkable user-friendliness, and improved efficiency, giving broadband providers what they need to be successful.

VETRO empowers broadband providers with tools that radically simplify all phases of the fiber network lifecycle, from planning and design to on-going network operations.  “VETRO operates in an industry that is moving at warp speed, where one cannot rest on any laurels,” said Lance McGee, Head of Product, VETRO. “Our continuous delivery of new and impactful features is a crucial part of our commitment to enable our customers’ ability to adapt to a dynamic and increasingly competitive environment.”

The new features include:

  • Quick route offers a paradigm shift in fiber network mapping. This time-saving feature automates the process of drawing perfectly coincident lines between two points (e.g. coincident lines that represent fiber cable and the ducts), significantly enhancing accuracy and efficiency. With quick route, users can streamline cable management, improve visualization, and dramatically reduce the time spent on network design.
  • Fiber paths table provides network professionals with a comprehensive view of fiber network connections. By visualizing and analyzing the physical layout and connections within the network – now from the ‘inside out’ in addition to ‘outside-in’ – this new graph-based engine assists in bulk viewing and assignment, and in network operation, optimization, and troubleshooting. The customization options for network path data display and enhanced export capabilities facilitate seamless data sharing and collaboration. The fiber paths table is particularly valuable for identifying customers affected by network maintenance or outages.
  • Network dashboard provides users with a summary of crucial network elements, alongside relevant features displayed on the map, in highly flexible and visual reporting. This data aggregation and summary presentation enables broadband providers to track network growth, plan strategically, and respond accurately to inquiries from management, customers, and investors by tying data-driven insights directly to the network view. The network dashboard offers a dynamic storytelling capability, empowering users to present data in a visually engaging and highly informative manner.

“Because VETRO’s FiberMap is based on a true Software as a Service (SaaS) platform, we were able to roll out these new innovations quickly and seamlessly, giving our customers a major competitive advantage in the market,” said McGee. “The new enhancements reaffirm our company’s commitment to continuous delivery of cutting-edge tools that improve accuracy, ease-of-use, efficiency, and overall network performance.”

The Nation’s Largest Middle-Mile Fiber Network Selects VETRO as the System of Record https://fiberbroadband.org/2023/05/02/the-nations-largest-middle-mile-fiber-network-selects-vetro-as-the-system-of-record/ Tue, 02 May 2023 16:29:14 +0000 https://fiberbroadband.org/?p=6955 The Nation’s Largest Middle-Mile Fiber Network Selects VETRO as the System of Record

With 10,000 miles of fiber to design, build and operate across California, VETRO’s cloud-native mapping and fiber management platform will simplify and accelerate the implementation of the massive state-run project

Portland, ME, MAY 2, 2023 — VETRO, a provider of the market-leading, user-friendly cloud-native fiber management system has been selected as the system of record for what will be the nation’s largest broadband network. When complete, California’s 10,000-mile fiber network will enable affordable and reliable connectivity to unserved and underserved communities throughout the state.

Through the construction and connection stages and into the future, the network will require a powerful system to identify, map, and manage every single strand of fiber—each about the thickness of a hair—with precision. VETRO helps to fully optimize the business value of the network by radically simplifying the digitization, data visualization, and management of fiber assets.

“We’re excited to partner with California’s middle-mile broadband team to aid their efforts to accelerate the deployment of high-speed fiber to ultimately connect underserved and unserved communities throughout the state. The VETRO team is eager to contribute to this meaningful impact on people’s lives,” said Will Mitchell, VETRO CEO.

VETRO FiberMap is an intuitive network mapping and fiber management GIS platform. Built on an open technology stack, delivered in the cloud, and designed for true ease of use, VETRO’s mapping and fiber asset inventory software brings efficiencies to network owners, operators, and internet service providers (ISPs). VETRO replaces standalone GIS mapping tools and spreadsheets with a robust and managed mapping inventory of the network and connectivity. The open API architecture enables integrations with complementary technologies like business support system and operations support system (BSS/OSS), auto design, construction management, and more.

Once fully built, the middle mile network will serve as the fiber backbone connecting ISPs in local communities to the world, enabling economic development, digital equity, and a better quality of life. But to achieve the lofty goal of better connectivity, an extensive process of creating and comparing build, cost, and revenue scenarios must occur to ensure optimal deployment strategies.  The state has already embarked on its collaboration with VETRO by utilizing VETRO’s services to facilitate initial project stages, including training and network design.

About the Middle-Mile Broadband Initiative

Since Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 156 into law in July 2021, the state has fast-tracked the development of the middle-mile broadband network to ensure Californians can benefit from the opportunities provided by increased broadband access, which is critical to achieving digital equity and inclusion in the state.

Senate Bill 156, sponsored by Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, included $3.25 billion to develop a statewide, open access, state-owned Middle Mile broadband network – high-capacity fiber lines that carry larger amounts of data at higher speeds over longer distances between local networks and the world. The 2022 budget package allocated an additional $550 million in future General Fund resources for the Middle Mile Broadband Initiative.

It is estimated that one in five Californians does not have an adequate internet connection. Once the Middle Mile network is complete, local carriers will have access to the network to provide communities with direct service to homes and businesses, as well as reduced-cost or free broadband internet service for those who are eligible.

VETRO Announces the Release of Faster, Smarter Fiber Management Platform https://fiberbroadband.org/2021/06/17/vetro-announces-the-release-of-faster-smarter-fiber-management-platform/ Thu, 17 Jun 2021 04:00:00 +0000 https://fiberbroadband.org/2021/06/17/vetro-announces-the-release-of-faster-smarter-fiber-management-platform/ June 17, 2021, Portland, Maine: VETRO Inc. announced today that it is enabling network operators to establish, light up, and monetize fiber networks faster and more efficiently with the latest version of its flagship VETRO FiberMap platform.

The company has made a significant investment in talent and technology to make VETRO FiberMap faster, smarter, and ready to scale, modernizing and redefining how fiber networks are planned, designed, built, and operated. In a pivotal moment for America and the world, VETRO is primed to be the platform that powers broadband equity by enabling operators and owners to digitize, visualize, and operationalize their network data.

The challenge of making the sprawling complexity and intricacy of networks visible and operational has long frustrated network owners and software developers alike, and solutions have fallen short. While other industries have streamlined and scaled with the productivity, centralized knowledge, and democratized data that has become the standard in enterprise cloud business software, telecommunications operators have struggled to design, manage, market, and sell network assets with decades-old technology and disjointed collections of single-use apps.

Now, in this critical moment when the world is looking to these same network operators to modernize connectivity and bridge the digital divide, VETRO is empowering them with the intuitive tools, techniques and aesthetic of truly disruptive software. With the ability to render spatial data more quickly than ever before, users are able to operationalize and query their network data at scale and on demand and leverage new insights to uncover new opportunities for expansion, revenue, cost efficiencies, and customer satisfaction.

“VETRO is our partner in innovation,” said Andrew Eubank, VP of Fiber at Visionary Broadband. “We chose VETRO for the simplicity, scalability, and responsiveness of the team. Very few companies have shown such a commitment to making their product work for their users, and we’re excited to use the power of the VETROFiberMap platform to accelerate our deployment even further.”

The latest enhancements to the platform build on the already best-in-class features with deeper, clearer network visibility, more flexibility to explore and filter data, and more powerful insights in a scalable, secure, and future-proof framework. All of this is available in real time to anyone in the organization, served up how and when they need it.

“We talk a lot about ‘underserved’ communities’ when it comes to connectivity, and in a way these providers have been underserved themselves when it comes to access to the tools and technology they need to rise to this unprecedented opportunity,” said Will Mitchell, CEO and Cofounder of VETRO. “We worked with operators to understand their needs and built this platform to empower them with a solution that modernizes their operations and brings their data to life. Creating a digital home for the physical internet is the true disruptive power of VETRO.”
