One of the biggest changes was when bend insensitive fiber was developed this allowed several applications and handling characteristics to be improved. \nWe will investigate the benefits and pitfalls of the bend insensitive optical fiber. Specifically\, how this will change our concept of handling the fiber\, our concept of how to design the cables that contain the fiber\, termination practices\, and overall installation changes. The advent of more bend insensitive fiber gave rise to several application changes cable design changes as well as installation and termination practices. While all of these are pluses just like adding up tolerances in a mechanical design sometimes\, we find that we stack our tolerances all in the same direction and while everything is within spec the product fails. We will look at how all the benefits have been taken advantage of by the various stages in cable design installation and termination and where they may or may not cause a problem. In general bend insensitive fiber has allowed a much broader manufacturing envelope to be used. But are we coming closer to a failure edge than we recognize\, that is the question. \nPresented by: \nWayne Kachmar\nOwner and President\, Technical Horsepower Consulting\nOptical Cable Technical Expert at Fiber Optic Center\, Inc. \n \n \n Register Now URL:https://fiberbroadband.org/event/fba-presents-how-far-can-we-push-bend-insensitive-fiber/ CATEGORIES:Webinars ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://fiberbroadband.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/FOCenter-11.05.2024_Logos_ED.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Detroit:20241030T130000 DTEND;TZID=America/Detroit:20241030T140000 DTSTAMP:20241105T223727 CREATED:20241017T153615Z LAST-MODIFIED:20241031T203530Z UID:10000292-1730293200-1730296800@fiberbroadband.org SUMMARY:FBA Presents - Hyperscaling Productivity with CAD and GIS Integration DESCRIPTION:In today’s ultra-competitive telecommunications industry\, the need for enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to increase speed and scale are more critical than ever. The permitting processes required by federal\, state\, and local agencies play a crucial role in ensuring that broadband projects meet regulatory standards and serve the public interest. While these processes can be complex and involve coordination among numerous agencies\, they are essential for the successful deployment of broadband infrastructure. Rather than viewing regulatory requirements as obstacles\, operators can approach them as opportunities for partnership and collaboration in order to set themselves up for success. \nThis week\, Gary welcomes Ryan Kudera\, Manager of Client Services at Finley Engineering Company\, to discuss Finley’s recently published whitepaper\, “The Four Steps to Successfully Navigating Complex Permitting Processes”. DESCRIPTION:It is well understood that high speed internet is the equalizer that shatters the digital divide\, but the challenges that communications service providers face in trying to extend connectivity to unserved and underserved communities are real and quantifiable. High infrastructure costs and geographical considerations are just two of the impediments hindering fiber deployment in rural areas. There’s an efficient and cost effective way to extend multi-gigabit connectivity to rural areas and remote regions with difficult terrain. But how can ISPs ensure that they get the most out of this opportunity and what are some of the areas of the connected home that can provide the biggest impact in terms of further monetization? This presentation will provide an overview of key trends in the North American residential broadband and connected home markets. \nSpecial Guest: \n\n\n\n\n \n  \nAlzbeta Fellenbaum \nPrincipal Analyst | 5G & Broadband\, Pricing & Strategy \n \n  \n\n \n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n \n \n Register Now URL:https://fiberbroadband.org/event/ffb-week-40-looking-beyond-speed-connected-home-monetization-opportunities-and-trends/ CATEGORIES:Fiber For Breakfast,Webinars ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://fiberbroadband.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/FFB_Banner.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20240926T140000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20240926T150000 DTSTAMP:20241105T223727 CREATED:20240913T140753Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240913T140753Z UID:10000267-1727359200-1727362800@fiberbroadband.org SUMMARY:Evolución de las redes preconectorizadas DESCRIPTION:En este webinar\, descubrirá cómo las nuevas tecnologías están revolucionando la manera de asegurar un rendimiento óptimo en redes preconectorizadas de telecomunicaciones\, permitiendo despliegues más rápidos y confiables. This historic level of funding creates an opportunity to bring high-speed internet access to every community in America and close the digital divide. \nHistoric levels of funding will accelerate broadband network construction\, putting enormous pressure on local governments responsible for permitting infrastructure construction within municipal boundaries. These processes take time and resources\, and not every government is equipped for the coming wave of construction. This is especially true in rural areas\, where municipal resources are lowest and BEAD activity will be highest. \nEffective and efficient permitting processes are critical for ISPs and local governments to successfully deploy broadband networks that will give every American community modern connectivity. Permitting Success Strategies for ISPs and Local Governments a paper offering solutions for permitting was published on September 4\, 2024 by the Benton Institute for Broadband & Society.
